Genesis Chapter 50 Summary
In this chapter, Joseph and the family are grieving the death of their father Jacob. Joseph has Jacob embalmed and prepared for burial and transport back to the land of Canaan.
The Egyptians joined Joseph and his family in mourning for Israel 70 days. Afterwards, they head to the land of Canaan to bury Jacob.
When they came to Canaan, they made another mourning seven days. The people of Canaan said that it was a grievous mourning to the Egyptians.
They buried Jacob, but Joseph’s brothers feared Joseph was only taking care of them because of his fear of Jacob and that it would come to an end once Jacob is officially buried.
They bow before Joseph praying for mercy. However, Joseph reminds them to fear not, he will nourish them because what they meant for evil, God meant for good.
The chapter closes out telling that Joseph dies at age 110 and made his children promise to take his bones out of Egypt when God visits them and delivers them out of Egypt.
