Welcome to BibleStudyMinistry.com, your online Bible Study supplement source. We’ve started a series titled The Who What When Where Why and How of the Scriptures. We will do it chapter by chapter. Today we have a who, what, when, where, why, and how of Genesis chapter 3. Let’s dive in.

Genesis 3: Who?

Who are the people or characters in this chapter? The serpent, the woman, the man Adam, and the Great Creator. These are the individuals, people, or characters involved in this chapter.

What? What is the storyline?

The storyline of the chapter is that the serpent deceived the woman into consuming the fruit from the tree that was forbidden. In addition, she convinced her husband to consume from it also. They were summoned by their Father, the Creator and judged immediately. Sadly, and ultimately they were banished from the Garden of Eden.

When? When in time does this chapter take place?

This took place early in the creation of Adam and Awa or Ewa (Eve).

Where? Where does it take place?

In the Garden of Eden, some believe somewhere near Ethiopia today, but DNA studies and reports have recently suggested modern-day Botswana. This is of course contrary to traditional theological accounts stating Turkey, Iraq or Iran areas.

Why? Why is this relevant to the biblical story?

They were being tested and failed on multiple levels. They failed in teamwork, obedience, and faith just to name a few test that Adam and Awa, failed. Although presented as a catastrophe, this was part of the plan of the Eternal Father for His children.

How? How does this chapter affect the characters and us today?

They were left alone and were supposed to figure it out! They were left to figure out how to go about their life on their own. The redemption and salvation plan for the children of Adam and Awa now begins; this is how this chapter connects to the rest of the biblical story.
