Daily Wisdom Bible Study – Rejoice Not When Thine Enemy Falleth
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
This is in regards to the sweet words of the Holy Spirit (Psalm 119 v103). We are to eat God’s Word. Remember, the Word was with God in the beginning and also there were three that bear record in Heaven; the Word being one. Who was the Word? Jesus the Christ, and Jesus told us to eat His body and drink His blood. When His followers thought Him crazy for this, Jesus revealed the flesh profits nothing, the ‘words’ I speak, they are spirit and they are life! Therefore, we are to eat God’s words like honey because it is good, and it is sweet to taste! I’ve personally developed a sweet tooth!
You May Be Happy and Grateful but Rejoice Not When Thine Enemy Falleth
14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
The same goes for knowledge of wisdom to us when we find it; it will be sweet, and the reward is great, it is even eternal life!
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
A just or righteous man will have his bad days or bad moments; however, if he is truly just, he will acknowledge his wrong, repent, ask for forgiveness, and get back onto the path. The wicked falls and dwells in their misbehavior with no intent of ever coming back!
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
As humans, it may appear natural to rejoice when your enemy falls down. Especially when someone was a bullish, or extremely oppressive person to you; but God tells us not to rejoice nor be glad in our mind at their fall. It is primarily because that is childish and evil. If you have kids and one gets in trouble and you punish them, and the other child laughs, what typically happens to the child who laughs? He joins the trouble or the punishment, or the parent may take it easy on what the punishment was or disregard it all together (for the child who originally caused the trouble).
Rejoice Not When Thine Enemy Falleth
The same operates with the Most High. Why rejoice that one child went astray became evil and was finally rewarded for their evil. It is really a lamentable moment. Nevertheless, if this was an oppressive bullying dictator, or a terrorist, or child molester, we can rejoice in the knowledge that the evil act they were administering others is finally over, and that God has avenged the recipients of their evil acts. We should not rejoice over their fall or be glad at their stumble, but grateful God has given us relief from their actions.
18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Here is the second part of why we should not rejoice at the fall of our enemies, and the correlation between parents and children! If you’re disciplining a child and your other children are laughing, you may turn away your punishment from that child. God has done it in the past and is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
