Chapter Summaries: Genesis Chapter 23 Summary

Here we are in Genesis Chapter 23 Summary! Not a whole lot to see here, keep it moving… well okay it is a chapter so we should conduct a summary. This chapter is regarding Abraham’s wife. Abraham’s wife,  Sarah, died at the age of 127. I read this out of a book and it was just so sad to me.

Give me a moment (tissue and tears)!!!

Okay, I’ve gathered myself together. So Abraham met with the children of Heth. They own the land over there and controlled much of the business transactions, so Abraham went and met with them. The reason was to purchase a burying-place for his deceased, whenever the time came upon them.

In this case, it was for his wife, Sarah. He argued with the children of Heth to give him the land for the actual price. He wanted no discount! The locals loved him and knew him to be a prince with God, so they wanted to give him the land like a gift. Whatever he offered, they would accept.

Genesis Chapter 23 Summary

Abraham wanted full price and the deed in writing, as he thought about future generations. Finally, they agreed for Abraham to pay the full amount. He then buried Sarah, his wife. The land with the cave and the trees was the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre.

It is the same as what is known today as Hebron, which was in the land of Canaan at that time. And this is the summary of Genesis chapter 23.
