The People Grumble Who Will Give Us Flesh to Eat Numbers 11

The People Grumble Who Will Give Us Flesh to Eat in Numbers 11: One day some worthless foreigners who left out of Egypt among the Israelites became greedy for more variety of foods. It was so bad even the Israelites themselves began moaning right along with them, “We don’t have any meat!”

In Egypt, we could eat all the fish we wanted, and there were cucumbers, melons, onions, and garlic. But we’re starving out here, and the only food we have is this manna.” That’s a lot of grumbling and complaining for some people who just were delivered out of cruel bondage.

The manna was like coriander seed and the color was like the color of bdellium. It tasted like something baked with sweet olive oil. It appeared at night with the dew. In the morning the people would collect the manna, grind or crush it into flour, then boil it and make it into thin wafers. It sounds like a tasty treat.

Numbers 11

4 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

7 And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.

8 And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.

9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

11 And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?

12 Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?

13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.

14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

15 And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

The Israelites stood around their tents complaining. Moses heard them and was upset that they had made the LORD angry. He knew what to do next and prayed for the people. Picture Moses as HIS Majesty, the LORD YAHOSHUA, the CHRIST, praying to the FATHER on the behalf of all the children of Israel.

This is what Moses did for that generation in the wilderness whenever they went awol. When they began to complain against the ALMIGHTY of Israel, Moses interceded. In addition, Moses did offer up a different type of prayer. He asked the FATHER why was HE doing this to HIS servant (speaking of himself).

What did he (Moses) do to deserve the affliction he was enduring? What was he speaking of? The ALMIGHTY made Moses responsible for all the people and they were not his physical children, he prayed.

Life is Tough and Wretched Sometimes

He was commanded to nurse them and guide them into the land of promise. Nevertheless, they keep complaining about meat and everything else; it had become a bit grievous for Moses.

Moses was near putting in his resignation letter because he felt it was getting too heavy for him to bear alone. The spokesman of the LORD pretty much said if this was the way the rest of the trip called life was going to go for him, HIS Majesty, the LORD of Israel may as well kill him at that moment and end his miserable life.

Oftentimes, affliction can make us wretched and unpleasant; Moses did not want to see that of himself based on the difficulties the people were causing him. Let’s see what happens in the next episode.

And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. The disciples asked, “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?”
