Daily Wisdom Bible Study – Good Understanding Gives Favour

10, Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

People who are always in disagreement usually have a lot of pride. They get into disputes often, always in an argument here, and have some sort of strife in their life there. It’s because of their pridefulness.

On the opposite end is someone who is well counseled, and well advised, they have wisdom. Not only because of the counsel they had or were given, but because they had the sense to utilize the counsel and wisdom.

11, Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

This is why the lottery winners of the world often fall faster than the money they won. It’s because they received it for nothing. They received their wealth by vanity. The same goes for anyone who receives something without putting in their own work.

Things mean more to us when we work for it, or use our money (which we earned by  labour). The increase comes more to those who labour. So, put in the work for the increase and neglect looking for handouts or quick and fast riches, all the time.

12, Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

When something we hope for gets postponed or pushed back, it makes us sad and weary.

Nevertheless, when our desires actually appear, we are revived like eating from a tree of life. A way to fix this is not to get so high on the highs, or too low on the lows. Keep an even level with our emotions, and give praise and glory to the Great Creator of Heaven and Earth.

13, Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

Many people despise the Word. They will be destroyed. Just in case we’ve forgotten who or what the Word is, read St. John chapter one. The soul that fears (with reverence) the commandment, will be rewarded, even with eternal life in the long run. In the short run, this trial life we are living this moment, a life of peace and joy.

14, The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. 15, Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

The law of the wise is to use discernment and understanding, which is to depart from evil. This is the fountain of life to those who do. This understanding and ability to discern allows the wise to depart from the snares of death.

In verse fifteen, sinners find life to be difficult and hard.

They seem to never get a clean break. Even when they think they are having success, it is still hard for them. But those who have been endowed to have a good understanding, they are given favor.
