1, The word of the Almighty that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.
2 Thus saith the Almighty; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.
3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
4 Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Almighty will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
5 Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?
6 O thou sword of the Almighty, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
7 How can it be quiet, seeing the Almighty hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.

Jeremiah chapter 47 summary; Jeremiah chapter 47 contains a prophetic oracle against the Philistines. It begins with a declaration that came to the prophet Jeremiah before Pharaoh smote Gaza. The prophecy describes the impending calamity that will befall the Philistines.
The Almighty’s message reveals that waters will rise up from the north, creating an overwhelming flood that will overflow the land and all its inhabitants, including the cities. This catastrophic event will cause the men to cry out, and the inhabitants of the land to howl in despair.
The prophecy continues to depict the impending destruction in vivid terms, emphasizing the powerful and destructive forces that will be unleashed. The stamping hoofs of strong horses, the rushing of chariots, and the rumbling of wheels will strike fear into the hearts of the people. It is a day of spoil and devastation for the Philistines.
And even their helpers from Tyrus and Zidon will be cut off.
The chapter concludes with a lamentation, as it describes the consequences of this impending judgment. Gaza is left in baldness, and Ashkelon is cut off, with the remnant of their valley.
The chapter ends with a rhetorical question, asking how long the sword of the Almighty will continue its destructive rampage. The prophecy emphasizes that the Almighty has appointed this judgment against Ashkelon and the seashore. This judgment indicates that it is a divine decree that cannot be averted.
