2 Kings chapter 19 summary began with a continuation between king and prophet. Hezekiah heard the news Rabshakeh, the emissary of Sennacherib delivered, and he tore his clothing.

He went right to the Best Source available, the LORD God of Israel, to find out what to do. Isaiah had a message for the king’s men from the LORD; the message was for them not to worry about the insulting blasphemous things the king of Assyria had spued out of his mouth.

2 Kings Chapter 19 Summary

Again, full of anxiety, king Hezekiah went to pray before the LORD. God answered Hezekiah again with the prophet Isaiah. The LORD said the people of Jerusalem will laugh at the king of Assyria.

The Sovereign LORD planned all of this long ago, and the king of Assyria was walking into his very own demise. The LORD said to Hezekiah, Sennacherib will not shoot as much as one arrow in the city of Jerusalem.

In fact, the pompous king of Assyria will head home just as he came there. The LORD assured the king of Judah that life will be just fine and Jerusalem will be great.

That same night, the LORD sent an angel into the host of the Assyrian army and killed, by pestilence, one hundred and eighty-five thousand (185,000) soldiers. They were all dead the following morning.

The king of Assyria fled to his city, Nineveh, and immediately ran into his temple to visit his god Nisroch. While praying there, his sons plotted and killed him. They then fled the country.
