1 Samuel Chapter 31 summary began with a great battle between the Philistines and Israel. This battle would essentially claim the lives of the first king of Israel, Saul and his sons.
Saul was merely wounded, but bad enough where he would not be able to escape. Knowing this, in addition to the seance he had the previous night, the king of Israel commanded his armor bearer to kill him so that he wouldn’t be captured and tortured and abused by the Philistines.
The armor bearer refused to kill his master and with the strength, he had left, Saul killed himself. The armor bearer then likewise killed himself. The Philistines won the battle, the next day the Philistines found Saul’s body.
1 Samuel Chapter 31 Summary
They cut off his head, strip his stripped his armor, published it in their country, and put his body fastened to the way of Bethshan in the house of their god Ashtaroth.
When this was heard of by the children of Israel, mainly the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead, valiant men got up and took the body of Saul and his sons, brought them back to Jabesh, and burned their bodies and buried them under a tree.
They then fasted for seven days. This is a turning point in Israel as their first king was killed in battle and they had no official leader the people recognized. Where do they go from here?
This is the summary of 1 Samuel chapter 31, which concludes the chapter, and also concludes the first book of Samuel. Glory to Honor.
