1 Kings Chapter 9 Summary: Chapter Summaries

1 Kings chapter 9 summary began with an appearance from God Almighty to Solomon a second time. After the house of the LORD was completed, God appeared again and acknowledged that He heard Solomon’s prayer and supplication.

God hallowed the house and put His name there forever. The LORD even confirmed that His eyes and mind will be there perpetually. Praying towards Jerusalem is a good direction to pray towards!

God also reminded Solomon to keep walking in the integrity and ways of David his father. If he continued, God would bless his throne continually. The polar opposite was the case if Solomon and his children decided not to walk in the LORD’s ways.

1 Kings Chapter 9 Summary

The LORD said He would cut off Israel, throw them out of His sight, destroy the house they built, and make them a byword among the nations. All of these things would happen to them if they disobeyed the LORD.

Everyone who observed the negative conditions put upon Israel for their rebellion would know why. They would know it was because the Israelites turned away from the LORD their God.

The chapter transitioned to Hiram, king of Tyre, as he visited Solomon to see the twenty cities Solomon gave him in the land of Galilee.

Hiram did not like them too much, still, he sent Solomon a hundred and twenty (120) talents of gold (a talent is, depending on what nation or civilization you are from can be anywhere from, 35 to 75 lbs).

It Becomes a Burden to Live in Israel

All of the building, construction, and labor, as well as, giving these cities to neighboring rulers as gifts, caused Solomon to raise the taxes in Israel pretty substantially.

They built quite a few large entities; they built the house of the LORD, the king’s own house, and the wall in Jerusalem.

This chapter told us also how the king of Egypt went and took a city called Gezer, which got rid of all the remaining Canaanites who lived there, and he gave the city to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

The Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, they remained bondmen and service to Israel with a high tax and tribute payment. Solomon was industrious, much more than David who spent more time establishing Israel by war.

Solomon brought in trade and dominion, but also other nations and their customs and gods. This is the summary of 1 Kings chapter 9, glory to the Highest GOD.
