The Spirit of God in my Nostrils

What does the Spirit of God in my nostrils mean? Job was telling a story when he said, as God lives, the same God who has vexed him with sore judgment; while his breath is with him and the “spirit” of God is in his nostrils, he would not do this one thing.

The one thing was, he would not speak wickedness, neither would he utter lies. The key part we are interested in this publishing, is where he says the spirit of God was in his nostrils.

In a post we titled “The Dust Returns to the Earth,” we detailed that the dead return to the dust, and the spirit of God back to God. This is a battle ground for many people to argue of man transitioning back to Heaven.

Job weakens the Heaven theory by saying the spirit of God was in his nostrils, as it is in ours today. It makes much sense. In Genesis chapter two, the scripture says God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

It was then, the air going into his nostrils, that man became a living soul or body, as opposed to a lifeless soul (without the breath of life).

The spirit of God in Job’s nostrils (as well as ours), is the breath of life God breath into us all. This is what returns to God in an event we sleep, the sleep of death.

The dead return to dust, and the spirit of God or the breath of God, returns to God.
