Queen of Heaven Folly from Jeremiah 44

There is something about having perverted thinking when it comes to reflecting on your life. Also, on how things have gone, the results you’ve gotten, and how God has blessed or afflicted you. I was reading in Jeremiah, chapter 44, and a couple of verses really stuck out to me. Let’s look at verses 16, 17, and 18.

16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee.

17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

This is the perverted thinking that is still going on today. For instance, someone eats candy all their life and a prophet figure or admonisher comes along prophesying. They say the candy eater will lose their teeth if they keep eating so much candy.

If they do not listen for ten or twenty years, eventually, all the work they have been negatively doing to their teeth will begin to show. It will show forth in the consequences and results.

Jeremiah 44

The same thing holds true for smokers or anyone exhibiting negative behavior, with little to no immediate affliction executed. When the prophet comes and declares to, ‘stop eating sugar; instead, return to milk, spirulina, spinach, and pure nutrients.’

The offender may grudgingly begin to take heed to the admonisher (prophet). Maybe by that time, they lose a couple of teeth. They lose them while they are in the process of rehabbing the damage they’ve done over the last ten years.

The erroneous thinking is easy to come to. They are drinking milk (full of calcium to strengthen teeth and bones), spirulina (rich in calcium), spinach, and other pure nutrients in the rehab process. Sure, they have lost a couple of teeth yet they erroneously believe the reason their teeth fell out is because of the new health regiment.

It is not the reason.

This is what the children of Israel were saying in this passage in Jeremiah 44. In a paraphrase, they were essentially saying, “we lived good while we serve the queen of heaven!” However, what they are unaware of is that their so-called “good life” was the sugar in their teeth.

It was good to taste, but terrible for the body. Serving the queen of heaven may have been well for them for the period of time. Especially because God is merciful and doesn’t speedily execute an offense (Ecclesiastes 8:11). Nevertheless, doing so lead to the destruction of Jerusalem and the kingdom of Judah.

They decided to go back to their false god, the queen of heaven, and sacrifice to her because they erroneously believed life was better when they were doing that. This is perverted thinking and judgment, and we need to move into reality and avoid remaining in spiritual drunkenness and darkness.

The Queen of Heaven

Today, know that you are covered by the Word of God if you accept it, and walk-in sobriety.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
