An Ordinance For Ever

What does it mean “an ordinance for ever?” The Bible is one of the only places in the world, where the word “forever” does not necessarily mean forever. The Bible is one of the only books in the world where the phrase, “all your generations,” does not mean all your generations.

Let’s look at a few verses here in the twelfth chapter of Exodus. This is in regards to the Lord’s Passover.

14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

If we read this verbatim it says … this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations. Let’s stop right there.

The children of Israel are to memorialize this day, the Passover, and “keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations.” So far, this does not pertain to any non-Israelites. The remainder of the verse says, ‘ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Ordinance, by definition, is a piece of legislation enacted by a municipal authority. Like a city ordinance, it is an edict, a decree, a law, injunction, a command, a rule.

An Ordinance For Ever

If God has set this up as an ordinance forever, why are the children of Israel not keeping this ordinance. It is an ordinance fore ever!

We have passover lessons on this website, however briefly, the Passover is to be kept a feast and memorial forever throughout all their generations. Following the Passover is a week of eating unleavened bread, it is the feast of unleavened bread.

An Ordinance For Ever

God is passing over our sin and is looking at the blood of the Lamb as our payment; therefore after God has passed over our sin, we are to sin no more.

This is what leaven represents, sin. Therefore, we eat unleavened bread as a representation of walking without sin.

But is this for the non Israelite? Is this for the non Jew? Just look at verse 19 in the same chapter.

19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.

Whomever eats leaven during that week of unleavened bread, they will be cut off from the congregation, and it does not matter if they are a stranger or an Israelite.

Why is it like this?

38 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

It is because more than just Israelites saw the workings of God being done in Egypt. A mixed multitude of people came out of Egypt alongside with the children of Israel. It was not an Israel thing, it was a Most High thing. Do you want to follow the God of Israel?

Yes! Then come on!

49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.

It is one law for the Israelite as for the stranger that lives among the Israelite. It is to be an ordinance for ever.

God’s Holy Days are An Ordinance For Ever.

This should let all Bible readers and Christians know we are all brothers and sisters in the Lord God. We all have one house rule, and that is to obey our Father, through Jesus Christ. This is our ordinance for ever. Pray Yah in Jesus name.
