1 In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it;
2 At the same time spake the Almighty by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.
3 And the Almighty said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;
4 So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians (as) prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
5 And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.
6 And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how shall we escape?
Isaiah chapter 20 summary contains a prophetic message attributed to Isaiah the son of Amoz. The prophecy focuses on the events surrounding the Assyrian conquest and the fate of Egypt and Cush (Ethiopia). In this chapter, the Almighty, through Isaiah, provides a vivid and symbolic prophecy by instructing the prophet to walk barefoot and naked for three years as a sign and warning to Egypt and Cush.
The Creator’s message in this chapter serves as a symbol of the humiliation and captivity that Egypt and Cush will experience at the hands of the Assyrians. It emphasizes the power and authority of the Almighty over the nations, extending beyond the House of Akobe.
Isaiah’s actions and the message he conveys emphasize the consequences of relying on worldly powers and neglecting divine guidance. Everyone who put their trust and hope in Egypt or Ethiopia would be crushed with disappointment. The Almighty points out the contrast between human folly and divine wisdom.
This chapter serves as a reminder of the Almighty’s sovereignty over all nations, never forget it. The chapter also shows the significance of heeding divine warnings. It portrays a future marked by the consequences of disobedience and arrogance.
This is the summary of Isaiah chapter 20, Glory to the King of the House of Akobe.
