In Genesis 42, here in our Genesis chapter 42 summary, the dreams of Joseph begin to come into full fruition. He began to see the dreams fulfilled as we are reading it. Jacob lived in Canaan, and he began to feel the effects of the famine.
He heard there was corn in Egypt and sent his sons to buy corn there. The brothers of Joseph went to Egypt and there they ran into the viceroy of the land, the man Joseph.
Joseph immediately recognized them, but after twenty-one to twenty-three years, they fail to recognize Joseph. They came to Joseph bowing down, which was what Joseph’s dreams presented they would do. Joseph harshly inquired why they have come to Egypt.
Genesis Chapter 42 Summary
He did this to get information from them (because his brother Benjamin was not with them). Then Joseph accused them of being spies and ordered them to return home and to present their younger brother.
Yep, they opened their mouth about Benjamin and Joseph used Benjamin to prove they were not spies (he knew they weren’t, it was just a show). Upon the brothers returning home, Jacob was told of the conundrum. He had to decide between losing another son or starving to death.
Omitted was the arguing back and forth, but reading the chapter will fulfill that. This is the summary of Genesis chapter 42.
