Chapter Commentary of Leviticus 16

In chapter sixteen, Moses told Aaron that Aaron should not come into the Most Holy place anytime he would like according to the Lord. Instead he is ordered to go in just once a year, specifically on the Day of Atonement.

In this chapter, Leviticus 16,  it explains the order of how the Atonement ordinance should proceed. Aaron must make atonement for himself and his family, and then do so for children of Israel also.

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died;

 2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

As for the sin offering, Aaron is to get two goats, kill one, which is for the sins of the people, and the other keep alive. And he and all the elders and priest shall lay hands on the head of the live goat and put all the sins on the head of the live goat.

The live goat is the scapegoat, taking the blame of sin for all the people. And after this the priests are to take the goat into a land not inhabited and to do so by the hand of a fit man (7-10).

Leviticus chapter 16

These goats both represent Jesus. The goat that was killed was killed and died for the sins of the people as Jesus for us. As for the scapegoat, it represents Jesus rising from the dead and being taken to a land not inhabited by man, which is Heaven on the right hand of the Father.

The scapegoat had all the iniquity of the people on his head, as Jesus did.  This is done on the Day of Atonement to do forever, once a year.

29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:

 30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

 31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.

 34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Seventh Month Tenth Day

This is a statue to do forever in the seventh month on the tenth day of the month. We are commanded to afflict our souls (fast from water and food) and do absolutely no work. It does not matter if we are in our own country or in another country, or with people from another country staying with us.

They all must take part. It is on that day the High Priest will make atonement for us to cleanse us of our sins before God. The High Priest Christians are under today is Jesus Christ, cleansing us of our sins and uncleanness before God Almighty.

The Day of Atonement is a High Sabbath day of rest and it is to be a statue forever. Once a year the children of Israel are to observe this day as the God of Israel commanded Moses. The killing of the goats is no longer part of the ceremony because Jesus has been killed and resurrected into eternal life.

We no longer need to symbolize and use the animals. We must simply fast and pray, and follow the commands for this day. It is the single most important day of the year along with the Passover.

God bless you for studying today with us, join us again and be blessed in the name of our LORD Yahsua (Jesus Christ).  Amen
