24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

The man that spares his son a corrective beating for wrongdoing, actually is not doing his son any development favors.

This proverb says that a man who spares his rod hates his son. Why? Behavioral scientist will tell us easily … it is because if you do not correct your child for incorrect behavior they won’t learn.

And, if you only correct them by saying, “you should do that son,” they will learn they can get away with abusive behavior and often time with very little correction.

I am sure many people do not agree wholeheartedly with this proverb, they do not feel they need to beat their children. I agree …  in some respects!

I do know that a child must strictly be corrected so they have respect and honor for their parents, and other adults, and authority.

If a child cannot listen to their parents, there will be very few people who they will adhere to. These types of kids usually end up listening to police as they are behind bars … or they find shelter in graveyards.

Spare the rod is to hate your son, but you love your son if you chasten him as much as is needed for him to learn.

I am not advocating abuse! All correction should be done in love and that is for the child to learn, and understand their wrongdoing.
