2011 Day of Atonement

2011 Day of Atonement

Today is the Day of Atonement for the calendar year 2011. For anybody who acknowledges to be a “Christian” this is an important day.

This is the actual day where the Lord wipes away our sins.  Many people preach and chase people down telling them “Jesus died for you, He took our sins away,” and these same people unfortunately are clueless to the fact that this day is representing just that.

We will inform and share with you the importance of this day; let us began in Leviticus 23 where the Lord’s entire Sabbath’s to observe are written.

Began in verse 1-2 says:

1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

This is here to simply show that the text does not say these are Jewish feast, as my teacher does, I like to do this to remind all of us that this is not a ‘Jewish’ thing as in Yom Kippur, but a “Yahweh” thing as in the God of Israel (Jesus).

2011 Day of Atonement

If these are the Lords feast and Holy Days, then if we serve the Lord we should partake in them. It only makes sense. Skip down to verses 26-32 as it deals directly with the day at hand;

26And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

27Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

28And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

29For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

30And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

31Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

32It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

On the 10 day of the 7th month we are to have a Holy Service, it is the Day of Atonement.  We are to afflict our souls, and do ABSOLUTELY NO work. This is a day where the Lord commands we absolutely do no work.

Today, we may work jobs that demand our attendance on this day or we’d be fired, if that is the case, the Lord knows what we are up against, but if you can get one day out of the year off, this is the day to put in your request.

People that don’t observe this day will be cut off among their people. That was in Israel and it is for the world at large as well.  We have to remember the Israelites are only a chosen people sent to teach and instruct the rest of the people of the ways of the Most High.

What God has given to Israel to do, He is giving to the world to do.

Let us move on…

How do we afflict our souls?

You do not have to go striking yourself and throwing yourself against the wall, but simply fast and reframe from your pleasures [smoking, TV, Harry Potter, etc], to take in a bit of suffering that Jesus went through for us.

Biblical example of afflicting our soul can be read in Isaiah 58 v1-3 – Here the Lord is explaining that He doesn’t hear our prayers when we do these fake attempts to afflict our soul and fast but we’re still watching TV, we call ourselves fasting but we’re still on the job hustling, we say we are fasting from a bowl of cookies and cream ice cream but not from our Doritos.

The point is that they called fasting afflicting your soul in that chapter.  This fast includes water and food.  It is a real affliction.

Let me move on and take it to Leviticus 16 v2-5, 6-10, 15-16, 18-22 …

Here we see the ordinance of the Day of Atonement.  Aaron (the high priest) had to perform the atonement for the people. Aaron had to go into the Most Holy place to do this and Moses commanded him only to go there once a year or else he’d die.

If Aaron just floated in there as he wished God would destroy him, because the Most Holy place is where the Lord dwelled or represented the presence of the Lord. Even parents rebuke their kids when they do not knock before whooshing into their room.

5And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

This verse says Aaron is to take two kids of goats for a sin offering – first he is to make atonement for his house and for himself; then Aaron (the then High Priest) takes the two goats and presents them before the Lord. Aaron had to cast lots on the two goats, and this is because one goat is going to be sacrificed & killed while the other is to be presented before the Lord alive.

2011 Day of Atonement All Generations

The live goat is called the scapegoat. These two goats represented Jesus Christ. This is because God was never in the business of raising goats from the dead. God did not even want to be in the business of killing goats. He commanded Aaron to bring two goats because one would die for the people’s sins, and the other to walk away with the sins of the people.

If we are paying close attention to the ordinance here we will see that Jesus did just this for us. First, Jeus had to die in our place for our sins. He did that. Next He had to present Himself to the Father in making atonement for us. A dead man or being cannot present anything to anyone, so Jesus had to be resurrected, which represents the live goat. Last, Jesus had to be presented to the Father in Heaven.

Verse 21-22:

21And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:

22And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

After Aaron puts his hands over the scapegoat (hence the picture above) it is sent out into the wilderness by a fit man, and the goat bears upon him all the sins of the people and was led away to a place not inhabited by man. The Angels took Jesus in a cloud back to the 3rd Heaven after His resurrection to present Himself to the Father and then sit on the right hand of the FATHER till He returns.

To the Wilderness Represents the Third Heaven

The angel represents the fit man and the wilderness is the 3rd Heaven, because no man has inhabited Heaven. All of this is Jesus.  It all points to Jesus the Christ! This is the kind of stuff Paul had to go back and study when he went to Arabia and the Holy Spirit guided him in the scriptures as it pertains to Jesus Christ.

But let’s see if this fits Jesus bill let’s go to St. John chapter 1 v 29:

29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Like the scapegoat Jesus took away the sins of the world.

We’ll finish with Romans 5 v1-2, 11:

11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

So friends, if you believe in Jesus you should be fasting and refraining from all manner of work today (day of Atonement), you should have a Holy Gathering honoring the Lord God of Israel, which is Jesus, because we are purposely afflicting our souls to show Jesus we are and will suffer with Him as He suffered with and for us.

Last, we are happy that He has made atonement for our sins to the Father in Heaven so we have a chance at eternal life.  Adam took that chance away from us in the garden, but Jesus took it on Himself to restore it to us.

It’s really quite straightforward when we really examine it. Many church leaders today know this but don’t teach it, either out of lack of believing it pertinence today or ignorant to its’ purpose.

The 2011 Day of Atonement.

This is singlehandedly the most important day of the year, it is the completion of the Passover, it is the official reconciling of the world to God, it is the actual day the Lord Jesus Christ will return to the earth, and unfortunately, 99% of Christians are taking a nap on it because they are not reading their Bibles.

No one can learn it unless they study their bible and search it out.

The Day of Atonement – thank you for being here and reading and hopefully you are edified in the name of Jesus.
