Welcome to the short synopsis of 2 Kings chapter 18 summary. This chapter introduced a new king in the kingdom of Judah. His name, Hezekiah, and he was a righteous king according to the writer as he did deeds as his ancestor king David had done in Israel.
He truly trusted the LORD God of Israel and was faithful to His ways. The Sovereign LORD was also with Hezekiah. In the fourth year of Hezekiah’s rule, king Shalmaneser of Assyria took down Israel in Samaria.
This took place shortly after Hezekiah decided to discontinue paying a tribute to the king of Assyria. With Samaria out of Israel, a new king took over the Assyrian throne.
2 Kings Chapter 18 Summary
His name was Sennacherib and he decided to invade Judah because Hezekiah no longer wanted to serve Assyria. Hezekiah paid the tribute to Sennacherib, decided against going to war.
Hezekiah gave tons of silver and gold, but that wasn’t enough for overly zealous and renegade king, Sennacherib. The king of Assyria sent emissaries to Jerusalem with a message that demanded Hezekiah bow down to him or get flatten down.
They scared the people of Judah with what Assyria had done to other nations and would do to Judah if they didn’t take the offer. Judah listened, but they did not utter a word based on the king’s command no to respond.
The king and the people prepared their petition to their God. This is the summary of 2 Kings chapter 18, glory to the Honorable God of Israel.
