Numbers chapter 4 summary concerns the duties of the Levite family and clan. This chapter is that simple, it is about the jobs performed by the Levites for the house of Aaron in the Tabernacle.
It began as God commanded Moses and Aaron to number the three sons of Levi (Gershon, Kohath, and Merari), and to start with Kohath. They took them from the ages of 30 to 50 years, all who enter the host to do the work in the tabernacle.
The sons of Kohath had a specific job; they did things like taking down the veils and covering the ark of the testimony. This was their “burden” in the tabernacle. The same went forward for the sons of Gershon, 30 to 50 years of age requirement to perform. This was the age of service and work in the tabernacle, and also for the sons of Merari.
Numbers Chapter 4 Summary
They had to volunteer to work in the service of the tabernacle from age 30 to 50 or they could not work. For instance, if they decided to labor at age 52, they were no longer qualified to work.
The chapter concludes with the census of the tribe. The number of Kohathites was 2,750, of Gershon 2,630, and Merari 3,200 for a total of 8,580 Levites.
These are the Levites who came forward to work in the vineyard of the tabernacle of the congregation for the house of Aaron. And this is the summary of Numbers chapter 4, glory to the Highest.
We pray the Father to add blessings to the reading and doing of His Holy Word through His Son Jesus the Messiah. Amen!
