Christianity Taking Off in Sub-Saharan Africa
In a new study published by PEW Research Center, a historic population shift is in the making in Africa’s sub Saharan belt.

The study is prophesying (predicting) that by 2060, more than 40% of the world’s christians will call sub-Saharan Africa home. That’s up from the 26% in 2015. The polar news to this is that areas with good Christian population will decline in the coming years, such as in Europe and America.
Muslim populations, however, in developed areas as in Europe and the Americas will continue to increase, the study revealed. The author of the study, David McClendon reported that the “shift in the regional concentration of the global Christian population is being driven by a combination of demographic factors.”
Some of these factors include, fertility, age, migration, as well as religious switching into and out of Christianity. “In sub-Saharan Africa, Christians, on average, are relatively young and have more children than their coreligionists elsewhere, contributing to the projected rapid population growth in the decades ahead,” McClendon reported.
In western Europe, most Christians are older, have less children, and have more access to education or informative means. In Muslim dominated demographic areas, they are having nearly four times as many babies as in western Europe.
Sub-Saharan Africa Christianity
The same baby rate is taking place in sub-Saharan Africa, if not greater than with Muslims. The article or study seems to not be so much about sub-Saharan Africa, but more about how western Europe will become a Muslim state in 10 years or less, “because of our stupidity,” Monsignor Carlo Liberati, the archbishop of Pompeii, Italy, remarked.
Liberati said, the catholics and christians altogether have a weak Christian faith, based on bad morals and religious decadence, which favors Islam. The cherry on top is that Islam, as well as sub-Saharan Africa are having more babies.
It has semblance, on a global level, to the story of Israel in Egypt, when they were oppressed, they began to “out-baby,” Egypt. This would have destroyed Egyptian culture, religion, and governance, had it not been for Kamose, the 17th Dynasty king of Egypt, instituting a birth control process for the Hebrews.
We are already seeing the birth control instituted worldwide against many groups (not so overtly as in biblical Egypt). The question remains, what will the decline of Christianity in western Europe and America mean for Christian leaders today (especially catholic leaders)?
That is to be seen, nevertheless, we are excited to see the rise of Christianity in sub-Saharan Africa, hopefully, they and our Muslim brothers and sisters will get along!
