But If ye Believe Not His Writings

But If ye Believe Not His WritingsJesus’ statements were always barn-burners … it is probably why people simply do not want to serve Him Wholly.

The Pharisees were moved to indignation against Jesus, and in our generation … two thousand years later the same goes on for people who bare witness, true witness of Jesus.

The title above comes from a phrase Jesus said to the Pharisees that really comes down hard on a lot of Christians today. It comes out of the book of St. John chapter 5

This is how it goes St. John 5:

47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

If ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? Plainly, Jesus is giving  a lot of emphasis to the writings of this person. This is to say, if you don’t believe his writings, how will you believe my sayings?

Let’s do this in modern day english or example:

But If ye Believe Not His Writings

If you do not believe the Bible, how will you believe me if I quote from the Bible?

Making sense now?

Great!

Let’s continue…

45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.

Jesus tells the Pharisees, He personally will not accuse them to the Father. The one that will accuse them is the one whom the Pharisees trusted with all their heart, even Moses.

Although they trusted Moses, they didn’t believe all Moses wrote. Jesus said, had they believed Moses, they would have believed Him.

Why?

They would have believed Jesus because Moses wrote about Jesus. Taking it further, Moses talked to and received all his instructions from Jesus… we’ll explain that another time or you can find it on this site or read the 7 Great lies all Christians believe… even the good ones (chapter 7)!

At any rate, all things in the Old Testament are written about Jesus. This is why He said, “He comes in the volume of the Book.”

Also, this is why Jesus said, if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? You cannot fully believe Jesus if you don’t believe Moses. You cannot believe fully in Jesus if you’re not a reader of the Old Testament.

We’ll end with this in Luke 22

25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

Jesus said ‘oh fools… slow in mind to believe all that the prophets have spoken and written…’

27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Jesus began in the books of Moses and went through all the prophets, expounding on things in the scripture concerning Himself.

Wow – But If ye Believe Not His Writings

44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

All must be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and even the psalms that were written concerning Jesus.
