Is Halloween for Christians Today

Is Halloween for Christians Today?

Halloween is a scary-fun time of the year these days. Some people get dressed as ghost and gobblings  while others become celebrities of fanciful figures. It’s all fun and games right? Is Halloween for Christians today should be a question everyone considers when this event comes around. There are businesses that are only open for two months during halloween and they are raking in more money (sometimes) than businesses that are open all year round.

Is Halloween for Christians Today?

“Halloweenist” grip that Christians are making too big a deal with this and we should let our “hair down” and just have fun. Well look at this excerpt and see if this is all fun and games:

Ancient Origins of Halloween – Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.” (History.com)

Now the “loosener” (I do make up words from time to time) and I use that term as someone ordering strong drink to loosen up their target; the “loosener” for Bible adhering Christians is ‘that is not what we are doing today’. That is usually the Christian argument with a lot of things, certainly with Halloween. Today we are simply dressing up and having fun; I mean “I put on a 70s outfit and go party, I am not thinking about the dead!” The conflict is that you are participating in the name of that cult-like practice. The first thing you will be greeted with at any Halloween party is the phrase, “Happy Halloween!” That means you’re in…

Is Halloween for Christians Today? The Answer is NO!

From a Biblical standpoint, Jesus told us not learn the ways of the Gentiles, this was told to us in Jeremiah and in Matthew’s chapter 20. The Gentiles (or Europeans) began many of the “holidays” we celebrate today; they reinvented many of these from ancient Hamitic cultures and rituals of worship. Halloween began as a way commune with the dead. Leviticus 19 and verses 26 and 31 tell us to remove ourselves from enchantment and observers times, familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards (all components to Halloween).

Halloween has to do with all of that stuff and when we condone it, it is not good. It is leavening that will eventually leaven the whole lump. Halloween doesn’t even pretend to be Christian; it unapologetically promotes Satan’s evil design against humans: Satan wants us dead. Satan wants us thinking we can communicate with the dead. Ironically, Halloween unmasks Satan as a hateful liar that Jesus said he is (St. John 8 v44).

It is Just Fun and Game but Is Halloween for Christians Today?

Parents should not feel bad taking this away from their children. If it is the fun you want, is it illegal to eat candy and have “dress-up” parties any other time of the year? I see television and school inundating children so much with this (and other “holidays”) I just sit my kids out of school sometimes to because they are being forced to deal with these traditions. Is Halloween for Christians today, I’d have to disagree because it does not come from Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, therefore it is not Christian, and should not be observed by Christians nor should they take part.

God bless you in Jesus name
